One Room. Many Perspectives.

Governments across Canada have made ambitious promises: net-zero targets, major infrastructure, sweeping transition plans. Turning promises into reality raises hard questions about cost, capacity, timelines and public buy-in.

The Forum brings modellers, social scientists, policymakers, utilities and industry leaders into the same room to work through those questions, one at a time. This year's edition asks what it actually takes to get there, and whether we are asking the right questions.

This is the first year the Forum includes a registration fee. It covers food and catering for the two days. If cost is a barrier to your attendance, contact vanessa.smikle@cme-emh.ca to discuss options.

We are pleased to host this year's Forum at Carleton University. Our event will take place at Richcraft Hall.

Located on the banks of the Rideau River, Richcraft Hall features a light-filled glass Atrium on the second floor that provides an open, modern atmosphere for networking and sessions.

Situated at the corner of Campus Avenue and University Drive, the venue offers central accessibility, scenic views, and connection to campus parking and transportation.

Main & Rear Entrances
Main entrance is located on Campus Avenue (ground level). Rear entrance is located near the river (ground level).
Ramp Access
An exterior entrance near the Steacie Building provides ramp access into Richcraft Hall. P16 Garage entrance offers ramp and elevator access from Level P1.
Elevators
Available inside for full wheelchair access to the Atrium (Level 2).
Upon Arrival
Follow event signage and wayfinding maps at any building entrance to reach the 2nd Floor Atrium.

Take the O-Train to the Carleton stop on Campus Avenue. Richcraft Hall is a 4-minute walk south.

Multiple routes service campus, including Bus 7 and Bus 10. Alight at the Carleton U. B stop (University Rd / Pathway Priv) for a 4-minute walk to the venue. Tap any credit card at the fare gate or bus reader (~$4.00 per ride).

2026 Canadian Energy Modelling and Policymaking Hall of Fame

Nominations are now open for a national award created by the Energy Modelling Hub (EMH) to recognize careers that have advanced energy system modelling and evidence-based policymaking in Canada.

About the Award

EMH is accepting nominations for the 2026 Canadian Energy Modelling and Policymaking Hall of Fame.

Our field moves fast. New tools emerge, new questions appear, and the community keeps expanding. Yet behind this progress are individuals whose work has quietly and profoundly shaped how Canada plans its energy future. The Hall of Fame is about making those contributions visible.

This national recognition honours individuals whose work has advanced energy system modelling and evidence-based policymaking in Canada. It celebrates careers that strengthen analytical rigour, open up methods and data, and build the collaborative capacity the country relies on today.

The 2026 inductee will be recognized at this year's Forum.

Nomination Criteria

Eligibility. The Hall of Fame honours individuals, and self-nominations are not accepted. Nominees must be available to receive the recognition in person at the Forum, on 16 December 2026 in Ottawa.

Nominations are assessed against five criteria:

  • Impact on Canadian energy and climate policy
  • Advancement of modelling tools, methods, or standards
  • Leadership in collaboration across institutions and governments
  • Contribution to national modelling capacity and mentorship
  • Commitment to transparency, analytical rigour, and evidence-based policymaking

How to Nominate

Anyone in the Canadian energy modelling, research or policy community can submit a nomination, individually or on behalf of an organization. The form takes about five minutes to complete.

A selection committee of modellers, policy practitioners, and researchers will review all submissions.

  • Nominations close: 15 October 2026, 11:59 p.m. Pacific time
  • Finalists announced: November 2026
  • Inductee announced: 16 December 2026, at the Forum

2025 Hall of Fame Inductee: Nick Macaluso

Nick Macaluso, 2025 Hall of Fame inductee

Over nearly four decades in public service, including 25 years at Environment and Climate Change Canada, Nick Macaluso helped build core energy, economic, and emissions modelling capacity still used today. His work supported major national decisions, including carbon pricing, and extended internationally through long-standing contributions to UNFCCC transparency and review processes.
